Workshop on Verification of Electromagnetic Flow Meters

The Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO) held, on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, a virtual workshop on the verification of electromagnetic flow meters, with the participation of 56 attendees from Arab countries. The workshop was led by Eng. Muhannad Azmouti, Chair of the Metrological Verification Committee for Non-Water Liquid Flow Measurement Instruments at the Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution.

The workshop included a presentation on “Verification of Electromagnetic Flow Meters”, which introduced the concept of metrological verification for electromagnetic flow measurement instruments, emphasizing its importance in ensuring measurement accuracy, improving product quality, and reducing waste and costs. The presentation also covered the components and operating principles of the meters, based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, and highlighted their advantages over other technologies, including high accuracy, insensitivity to density or viscosity, and absence of moving parts.

The workshop further included a comparison of different flow measurement technologies, such as mass flow meters, volumetric flow meters, differential pressure meters, and magnetic meters, while emphasizing the classification of measurement systems and factors affecting reading accuracy, such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, and installation. The importance of regular calibration and maintenance was also discussed.

Practical verification steps were demonstrated, starting from preparation and installation, selection of verification points, measuring flow rates, adjusting zero deviation, checking linearity and repeatability, to documenting results and issuing final reports. The workshop concluded by highlighting the significance of these procedures in ensuring measurement fairness across industrial sectors, thereby enhancing production efficiency and promoting transparency.

Open Session – 29th GULFMET Meeting

The Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO), represented by the  Arab Metrology Association (ARAMET), participated in the open session of the 29th Meeting of the Gulf Association for Metrology (GULFMET), held today, Tuesday, 9 September 2025.

The meeting witnessed the participation of more than 21 attendees, including representatives of the Arab member states of GULFMET, alongside several regional and international organizations.

During the session dedicated to regional metrology organizations, ARAMET delivered a presentation titled “  Achievements and Future Prospects”. The presentation highlighted key accomplishments, particularly in building the capacities of member states and qualifying Arab institutes for international recognition, in addition to ARAMET’s publications, which include Arab guidelines and manuals. The importance of ARAMET obtaining international recognition was also emphasized, along with the efforts required by member states and the support of GULFMET.

The session also featured presentations by several other organizations, including:

  • International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML)

  • International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO)

  • European Association of National Metrology Institutes (EUROLAB)

  • Sistema Interamericano de Metrología (SIM)

  • National Institute for Standards (NIS), Arab Republic of Egypt

Special Meeting Held to Define the Mechanism for Reviewing Quality Systems in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Iraq

The Technical Committee on Quality of the Arab Metrology Network (ARAMET) held a virtual meeting on Monday, 25 August 2025, dedicated to discussing the mechanism for reviewing and improving quality systems in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Iraq, as part of their efforts to strengthen metrological capabilities.

The meeting was attended by committee members representing the following Arab countries: Jordan, State of Palestine, Iraq, and Egypt, in addition to the Secretariat of the Arab Metrology Network (affiliated with the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization – AIDSMO).

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the proposed quality system review mechanism, which included the exchange of evidence and official documents, conducting an initial desk study, followed by potential field visits, and the preparation of formal reports to identify areas for development. Participants also emphasized the importance of enhancing regional cooperation in inter-laboratory comparisons and building the technical capacities of member states.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation that the review process will continue to include quality systems in other Arab countries after completing the assessments in Jordan and Iraq.
